By Kat Knuth, Longmont Newborn and Family Photographer

I am an extremely sentimental person. Working as a Longmont newborn photographer has done nothing to change that, I’ve just become a sentimental newborn photographer! Haha!

When I prepared my newborn photography clients, I often give these three tips:

  1. Keep your house around 80 degrees. Newborn photography sessions are often done with minimal clothing to capture those sweet newborn details. A warm house will keep baby comfortable as we work through the session.
  2. Always, always, if you have some, selected a few momentos, heirlooms, or special outfits for the session. This session illustrates why so perfectly.
  3. Remember to relax. These sessions take a while and that’s okay! Newborns are so sweetly sensitive to changes in their environment. Babies can tell that I’m a new presence and will stay awake to check me out. But I’m here to work with them, not against them, so I’m more than happy to let them do what they need to do. Nurse, take a bottle, rock a little in their parents’ arms, whatever they need! I can wait and you’ll be glad we did!

For this adorable little boy, dad had several koala bears picked out and set up on a table in the living room. He explained which ones were his when he was growing up and which one had traveled the world as it was passed down through his family over the past century, before making it to Longmont, Colorado. How special it was to share those memories with his son!

Because the koalas were shades of gray and tan—neutral tones—I pulled a knit crown from my outfit collection to take a few precious pictures of this darling newborn boy sleeping in a basket.

I often like to add a few black and white detail shots to my albums for my Longmont newborn photography clients as well. This tiny baby feet shot with his parents hands cradling him was just perfect in this monotone selection.

All in all, another great Longmont newborn photography session in the books! This sentimental newborn photographer couldn’t have been more pleased with the results.
